Junior Volunteer Positions
Junior volunteer positions at Memorial Health System include, but are not limited to:
PATIENT ACCESS & ESCORT:
Volunteers assist in admitting patients; escort/transport patients to floors and performing various clerical jobs. This is a good area for those interested in making people feel at ease.

BIRTHING CENTER:
Volunteers make charts or information packets; run specimens to the Lab; obtain equipment and supplies from Pharmacy or Central Processing; prepare cord blood tubes; clerical duties.

BLOOD BANK:
Volunteers answer phones; may schedule donors; run samples to the Lab; greet donors; start registration process; pull donor cards for the next day; file paperwork.

BOUTIQUE:
The Gift Shop is operated by the Auxiliary to raise money for the hospital. Volunteers sell gifts, cards, flowers, sundry items, and operate a cash register.

CENTRAL SUPPLY:
Volunteers answer telephones, give out scrubs, label linens; learn and follow sterile area procedures.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT:
(Minimum age: 16) Escort patients and families within the emergency department.

INFORMATION DESK:
Volunteers provide information/directions to visitors; answer patient location telephone lines and transfer calls.

NURSERY:
Volunteers run errands; stock supplies; make packets and arm boards and perform miscellaneous duties for the Unit Clerk/Secretary; there is NO personal contact with babies.

OFFICES:
Volunteers perform clerical duties in non-clinical offices to include the Volunteer Services office; tasks are primarily alphabetizing, filing, and copy-making.

OUTPATIENT SURGERY:
Volunteers assist nurses by helping show patients to rooms; transport patients; run errands; stock supplies; get drinks for post-operative patients and family members.

PATIENT CARE AREAS:
Mother/Baby, Cardiac, Medical, Surgical, Outpatient Surgery, and Orthopedic/Neurological, Intensive Care Unit; volunteers are assigned to the nursing station on a specific station on a specific floor; run errands for nurses and unit clerks; transport patients; help with meal trays; visit with patients.

PHARMACY:
Available only when requested by Pharmacy Personnel. Volunteers are assigned to the Pharmacy to assist staff with clerical duties; stock supplies; deliver orders to nursing stations; may perform other duties.

REHABILITATION:
Volunteers help Rehab personnel with patients; observe the care given; run errands; do clerical work; perform other duties.

PLEASE NOTE: The following positions are available after successful completion of six months volunteer work:
Pediatrics/Pediatric Playroom: Pediatric patients are no older than 18 years. Volunteers help staff by running errands; discharge patients; spend time with patients when they do not have visitors.
Special placement is available in areas such as Book Cart, Lab Support Services, and Surgery.
